The Crescent Moon of the Month of Jamadi al-Awwal 1437

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Crescent Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Wednesday, February 10th, 2016, will be the first day of the month of Jamadi al-Awwal, 1437 AH for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Tuesday, February 9th, from many locations. 

We ask Allah (swt) for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdī (ajfs). 

Important Islamic Events This Month:

  • 5 Jamadi-I (Feb 14):          Birthday of Lady Zaynab, daughter of Imam Ali (a.s.) – (5th year A.H.)
  • 13 Jamadi-I (Feb 22):       Martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (a.s.) – (11th year A.H.)

The Moon-Sighting Committee was established in 2007 by The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America, which annually selects new members to serve on its behalf. It has offered its services to the believers in North America every month since. The current committee was appointed at the Fifteenth Conference of The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America held in Chicago in August 2015.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Monday, January 10, 2016, is the last day of Rabi al-Awwal 1437 and Tuesday, January 12, 2016 will be the first day of the month of Rabi’ al-Thaani, 1437 for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Sunday, January 10, 2016, in any region of North America.

We ask Allah (swt) for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdī (ajfs).

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon at sunset on Friday, December 11, in any region of North America. Therefore, Saturday, December 12, will be the last day of Safar and Sunday, December 13, 2015 will be the first day of the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, 1436, for the entire region of North America.

 

     We ask Allah (swt) for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdī (ajfs).

  •  8th (Dec. 20th)         Martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Askari (year 260 A.H.)
  • 12th (Dec. 24th)        Arrival of the Prophet Muhammed PBUH&HF to Yathrib city (al-Madina)   marking the start of the Islamic calendar.
  • 17th (Dec. 29th)        Birthday of Prophet Muhammed PBUH&HF (53 B.H.)
  • 17th (Dec. 29th)        Birthday of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq a.s. (Year 38 A.H.)
  • 18th (Dec. 30th)       Establishment of al-Nabawi Masjid (Mosque) in the city of al-Madina on the first Hijri year.

The Crescent Moon of the Month of Safar, 1437

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Crescent Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Friday, November 13, 2015 will be the first day of the month of Safar 1437 for the entire region of North America.

This determination was made due to reports of verified sightings of the crescent moon at sunset on Thursday, November 12, in many regions of United States. Thus, Arbaeen, the anniversary of the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (as), will be on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

We ask Allah (swt) to give us victory and success in reaping the maximum benefits this month as we honor the Ahl al-Bayt (as) and we ask Him as well to increase their remembrance among ourselves, our family, and our friends. Finally, we ask Allah (swt) to hasten the Return of our Master, the Awaited Imam (ajfs).

 


 

  • 7 Safar (Nov 19):  Martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (as), 50 AH
  • 17 Safar (Nov 29):  Martyrdom of Imam Ali bin Musa al-Rida (as), 203 AH
  • 20 Safar (Dec 2):  The anniversary of the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (as), 61 AH
