The Crescent Moon of the Month of Safar, 1440 A.H.

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that the crescent moon of the month of Safar, 1440 A.H. was sighted by the naked eye in the south/west region of the United States during the sunset of Tuesday, October 9th, 2018.

Based on the Multiplicity of Horizons opinion, the first of the month of Safar, 1440 A.H will be Wednesday, October 10th, 2018, for all of the United States and most parts of Canada.

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Crescent Moon of the Month of Muharram, 1440 A.H.

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Tuesday, September 11th 2018, will be the first day of the month of Muharram, 1440 A.H. for the entire region of  North America.

Therefore,

  • The Day of Ashura will be on Thursday, September 20th, 2018

This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Monday, September 10th, 2018, from many locations.

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Crescent Moon of the Month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1439 A.H.

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Monday, August 13th 2018, will be the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1439 A.H. for the entire region of North America.

Therefore,

  • The day of Arafah will be on Tuesday, August 21st, 2018
  • The day of Eid al-Adha will be on Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018

This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Sunday, August 12th, 2018, from many locations.

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Crescent Moon of the Month of Dhu al-Qidah, 1439 A.H.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Saturday, July 14th, 2018, will be the last day of the month of Shawwal, 1439 A.H. and Sunday, July 15th, 2018 will be the first day of the month of Dhu al-Qidah for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Friday, July 13th, 2018, in any region of North America.

We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).
