The Crescent Moon of the Month of Safar, 1439 A.H.

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Saturday, October 21st, 2017, will be the first day of the month of Safar, 1439 A.H. for the entire region of the United States and parts of Southern Canada.

This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Friday, October 20th, 2017, from many locations.

We ask Almighty God for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

It has offered its services to the believers in North America every month since. The current committee was appointed at the Fifteenth Conference of The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America held in Chicago in August 2015.

The Crescent Moon of the Month of Muharram, 1439 A.H.

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Thursday, September 21st, 2017 will be the last day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1438 A.H. and Friday, September 22nd, 2017, will be the first day of the month of Muharram, 1439 A.H. for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017, in any region of North America.

We ask Allah, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Crescent Moon of the Month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1438 A.H.

To the respected believers in North America,

Peace be upon you.

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017 will be the first day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1438 A.H.  for the United States and southern parts of Canada.

Therefore,

  • The day of Arafah will be on Thursday, August 31st, 2017
  • The day of Eid al-Adha will be on Friday, September 1st, 2017

This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017from multiple regions in the United States.

We ask Allah, the Most-High, for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).

The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Monday, July 24th, 2017 will be the last day of the month of Shawwal, 1438 A.H. and Tuesday, July 25th, 2017, will be the first day of the month of Dhil Qa’da, 1438 A.H. for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Sunday, July 23rd, 2017, in any region of North America.

We ask Allah, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p)
