To the respected believers in North America, Peace be upon you. The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Tuesday, November 1st, 2016, will be the first day of the month of Safar, 1438 A.H. for the United States and southern parts of Canada. This determination is based on the fact that there were reported sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye during the sunset of Monday, October 31st, from many locations. We ask Allah (swt) for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (ajfs).   Important Islamic events in this month:
7 Safar (Nov. 7): Martyrdom of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (as), 50 AH
17 Safar (Nov. 17): Martyrdom of Imam Ali bin Musa al-Rida (as), 203 AH
