Syed Rafiq Naqvi Recognized for over 20 Years of Service to Shia Muslims in North America

At the gala dinner of the twentieth UMAA convention, held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Bethesda, Maryland, the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America, represented by Sayyid M. B. Kashmiri and Sayyid Rizwan Rizvi, gave Syed Rafiq Naqvi special recognition for his tireless efforts in support of Shia Muslims in North America. This was a fitting setting for the occasion, as Syed Naqvi served as the resident scholar of the Idara Jaffaria of Maryland for decades.

In addressing the audience at the UMAA convention, Sayyid M.B. Kashmiri spoke to Syed Naqvi’s dedication, resilience, and vision. He shared that Syed Naqvi began as one of the original members of the council in the early 2000s. Shortly thereafter, though, activities were halted. It was Syed Naqvi who worked tirelessly to bring this group of scholars together yet again. Now, over twenty years later, the Council of Shia Muslims Scholars of North America continues to work collaboratively to address the needs of Shia Muslims in the region.
