The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America offers its condolences to all believers…
In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Condolences on the Passing of His Eminence, Grand Ayatullah Shaykh Lutfullah Safi
Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (p) is reported to have said:
“The demise of a scholar is a strike in Islam that nothing can compensate for.”
[Shaykh al-Sadouq, al-Khisal: p. 504]
To the respected believers in North America,
Peace be upon you.
With sad hearts, today, the seminaries lost one of its distinguished jurists, Grand Ayatullah Shaykh Lutfullah Safi, in the holy city of Qom, after a long and rich life of knowledge, giving, and sacrifice. In his more than a century of servitude (1919 - 2022), his piety and spiritual personality was a role model for all believers. Ayatullah Safi was also a prolific author with more than eighty volumes of books and numerous articles on Islamic law, theology, the Imam of our time (p), tafsir, and poetry. His particular attention to Islamic etiquettes, social justice, and his love for Islamic art and poetry are some of the many legacies that would be remembered after him. In his last advice to the Council of Islamic Seminaries, a few weeks before his demise, he said: “The seminaries are the trust of Imam al-Sadiq (p) and the Imam of our time (p). Its preservation is obligatory and necessary for everyone. Our great scholars took care of this trust with all their might and efforts, and today it is the duty of all of us to maintain this trust in the best possible way.” The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America offers its condolences to the Imam of our time (p), the grand jurists, and to our respected believers in North America. May Almighty God elevate his status and place him next to his beloved Imams and our prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny).
